Spring cleaning the deck

Spring cleaning the deck

As the weather finally begins to warm up, we are keen to spend more time outdoors and start using our deck more often. However, as I shared on Monday's post when I was restoring our blackboard, our deck was in major need of some cleaning up. When Summer approaches, the exterior often needs as much work as the interior. Here's how we restored our deck so it was Summer-ready!

Restoring old furniture pieces

Restoring old furniture pieces

Whenever I organise a space, there are three main things I do - sort and declutter, purge, and problem-solve. Although I'm pretty ruthless when it comes to getting rid of things, I always try to look differently at furniture, and if I'm deciding whether to keep or get rid of it, I try to solve the problem it poses. Could it be saved and improved with a coat of paint, sanding it back, applying a new wood-stain or being covered with a new fabric? If a piece of furniture in your house is looking tired and you're wanting to just get rid of it, think seriously about whether a bit of sprucing up could give it a new lease of life.

Using jars for lunch storage

Using jars for lunch storage

Today I'm excited to be launching a new weekly series to the blog called 'Quick Tips'. These posts will include a simple tip or trick for things I use/do around my home that you may find useful, or may like to try in your own lives.

These tips will be related to any one of my favourite topics:

  • organisation
  • storage
  • home improvement
  • cleaning
  • kids
  • cooking and food

So, to start of the series, today's 'quick tip' is about lunch storage using mason jars.

Organising the nursery

Organising the nursery

As I tackled a small organising task this week, I realised that not all projects need to be on a huge scale to leave you feeling proud of what you have just accomplished. A job as simple as clearing out the junk drawer or organising the paperwork, can give you an overall feeling of calm, focus and clarity, and that can only be a good thing! It's why I love to organise so much ;)
