How to organise a laundry storage cupboard

How to organise a laundry storage cupboard

Who doesn't love a good sneak peek into other people's storage spaces?! I know that some of my most pinned Pinterest images are those that show sneaky storage solutions, or clever ideas for 'adding' space in a tight spot.

Luckily for us, in our new laundry, storage space is not an issue - with a huge cupboard, we have plenty of room for all the laundry essentials, plus some added extras from other rooms! In the last episode of The Organised You TV, I revealed the new laundry room that we created ourselves as part of our home renovation. And in the second part of this reveal, I'm showing you inside our laundry storage cupboard.

Revealed: a tour of our terrific new laundry room

I'm excited today to finally be giving you a tour of our new laundry room - it's been a long time coming! After we 'completed' our home renovation last year, we were left with 100s of little (and many not so little!) jobs to complete. One of those included the build of our entire laundry. A rather daunting task to say the least!

However, we'd been planning this new space for a long time, and knew exactly what we wanted - you may remember this post where I outlined my wish list of features and items I hoped to include. A detailed plan always makes any big project easier to dive into!

5 Simple steps to creating a school memory box

5 Simple steps to creating a school memory box

I imagine all the mamas of school-aged kids would be nodding their heads in agreement when I say the amount of work that comes home from your child's school-life can be a little overwhelming! But it's also difficult to actually decide what to keep, and what to get rid of, when it comes to your child's wonderful creations.

When my 6 year old son (who has just started school this year) comes home with a new certificate, piece of writing, drawing, or painting, I feel incredibly proud of him, and he is so proud of himself. And that is something to be celebrated in life, right?! Which is why we have an art display in both our kids' rooms, and a cork-board for their certificates and awards.

However, I also knew that with each new keepsake that entered our home, I really needed to create some sort of streamlined system for sorting and storing it all. Something that would keep the paper piles at bay, while preserving the special memories, report cards, work, and achievements collected throughout the school years.

And that is how I decided that a School Memory Box was a must in our home! It's a system that I am already loving - both for the ease of setting it up, and maintaining it...  as long as you keep the word 'streamlined' in mind!

7 proven essentials for the best family command centre

7 proven essentials for the best family command centre

Can you relate to this situation? You walk through the door from work or school pick-up, and despite the fact that you’re bone-tired and could quite easily slump on the couch with a cuppa and a magazine, instead you’re faced with school bags that need to be unpacked, a pile of mail and bills to wade through, and notices to read (and actually deal with) from kinder and school. Ugh, the last thing you feel like doing, right?

Wouldn’t it be great if you had an organised ‘drop-spot’ where you could quickly deal with these tasks and actually get yourself to said couch with minimal effort? Ummm, yes please!

If you’ve been following the blog over the last few weeks, you KNOW I’m going to tell you that the command centre is your answer. And for good reason! Not only does it give you someone to store and sort paperwork (probably this zone's most important function), but it helps keep you on track with all those tasks and to-do’s that we face every single day.

Today I’m sharing 7 proven essentials (and a FREE detailed checklist & planner) that will help you create the most functional, practical, and organised command centre. You’ll be totally rocking your home organisation in no time!

A behind-the-scenes look at our sensational command centre

18 months ago, hubby and I were deep in the 'planning phase' of our renovation. New kitchen, new living areas, new master bedroom - it was all happening, and both exciting and stressful as so many decisions lay before us.

One thing I was adamant about putting into our plans the entire time was a family command centre. In my last post, I talked about how to recognize if a command centre would be beneficial for you and your family (did you take the quiz? How'd you go?). It really is an essential zone in our home, and I'm excited to show you our new one in today's TV episode.

This Christmas, we invited our extended family to lunch at our house - excited to be able to host a big celebration in our new home. We asked everyone to bring something to make the day a little easier. My sister-in-law Louise was on salads, and when she arrived, she went straight to the kitchen to finish putting them together. I sat back and noticed she was opening drawers and cabinets and finding things with ease, without having to ask. Everything seemed pretty intuitive. Which was awesome for me as the champagne had already been opened!

When I asked if she needed any help, she answered:

'Everything is so easy to find in here! You should have seen me this morning in my kitchen... To get to this big platter, I had to move a heap of crap out the way, things I don't even use anymore. I was getting so frustrated I didn't have enough space to prepare everything, I nearly didn't make it! Being in this kitchen is like **nirvana** compared to the nightmare I was in this morning!!'

I love my dramatic sister-in-law! We had a good laugh, but I knew she was only half-joking. She has told me many times before about how she hates being in her kitchen, and feels totally uninspired to cook in there.
