If you've ever done a big declutter of your personal items, you would probably be able to relate to the fact that it can be very difficult to decide what keepsakes to hold onto, and what to throw out. Although I consider myself pretty ruthless at getting rid of clutter, I definitely like to hold onto things with emotional value. Today I'm showing you how we store these precious items.
Storage solutions for kids' books
I am super happy that both our children love books. We have read to our little bookworms from day dot and it is exciting to watch them now happily looking through their favourite books independently (and giving mum 5 minutes of peace). Plus I love doing bedtime stories...even if it is the same one on repeat sometimes!
To foster this love for reading, my goal has been for the kids to have easy access to books in the different areas of the house in which they play. This means we need appropriate storage so there aren't piles of books lying around the house. So here's a look at some of the storage solutions we use.
Storage solutions for the pantry
We are currently in the planning stage of a kitchen renovation, which basically involves ripping out lust-worthy pages from 'Home Beautiful', pinning kitchen inspiration, visiting kitchen showrooms, and saying to each other things like 'one day, it'll be awesome to have a breakfast station/more storage/a bigger oven'.... So, still very early days!
Although there are definite changes I'm looking forward to, I also firmly believe in working with what you currently have. I've rearranged things in my current kitchen lots of times to finally reach a storage set-up I am happy with, tweaking here and there to make it work in the most efficient way for our family. Organisation is definitely an on-going process. Today, I am talking about our organised pantry, and the adjustments we made recently that have been big game-changers in the way we use our kitchen!
An organised entry
I mentioned in a previous post how handy my husband is... and here is the evidence! A few months ago, I was at frustration point with our morning routine of trying to get myself and my 2 children out the door on time without feeling frazzled and rushed. I was getting irritated at not having a central place for things like keys, sunnies, jewellery, and was sick of running back and forth between different rooms to grab the essentials for the kids - shoes, hats, coats, water...the list goes on! So I asked hubby if he could build a console - basically a stylish piece of furniture for the entryway that could serve double purpose as handy and functional storage for all the essential bits and bobs.
My laundry helpers
The title of this post makes it sound like I have a little army of helpers when it comes to laundry time....I wish! Although my 3 year-old son sometimes helps when I am hanging out the washing ("Here's a sock! Here's another one. And another!"), I am usually working solo when it comes to laundry time, as I'm sure most of you are.
Dealing with the paper clutter
It is incredible to think about the amount of paperwork we receive on a daily basis. Despite living in a digital world, and receiving so much of our information via email, there still seems to be a never-ending influx of paper. In this post, I'm showing you my organised method for dealing with paper clutter.
